  Cast Iron Fireplaces

Fireplaces are some of the most beautiful and elegant additions to any home. Before central heating systems, fireplaces were often the primary means for keeping a room warm in cool climates. In addition, many people in a house or lodge would gather around the fireplace or sleep close to a fireplace since it was the only source of heat available. Today, however, fireplaces are not used primarily for heating a room. Rather, the fireplace serves as a functional decorative keeper of the fire and a novel source of heat and light.

The Cast Iron fireplaces of today are often quite decorative and are designed Cast Iron Fireplaceswith
unique styles and contours to match the decor of a room. In addition, Cast Iron Fireplaces are often shaped differently to match a room or even to become the decorative centerpiece of the room. Some fireplaces today are built to be used outside. Others are built to rest in between room so that two different rooms can benefit from the fireplace. In addition, fireplaces today are no longer powered exclusively by gas, but can also be powered by gas, pellets, or even by electricity. These features make them even easier to maintain or clean.

Today's fireplaces are often designed to be more energy efficient and to work with a home's existing heating system. Some of the older fireplace models, while warming the area near the fireplace, would actually produce significant heat loss over the remaining portion of the house.

To have a complete fireplace, however need a quality fireplace toolset. This makes it easier to clean fireplace, reposition the logs if necessary, and remove hot coals. Another great benefit of fireplace tool sets is they look lovely next to the fireplace, adding a traditional touch to your home.

Cast Iron may need a bit of maintenance but will last for years if looked after. Occasional painting with high temperature stove paint will halt rusting. Also, cast iron is extremely heavy and will withstand a lot of abuse.

Improved production techniques and authentic high quality reproduction design has helped fuel the rebirth of interest in reproduction cast iron fires in Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts and Art Deco styles.

  Types of Cast Iron Fireplace

Generally there are three types of Cast Iron Fireplaces:

  • Arched Insert
  • Tiled Inserts
  • Combinations

   Arched Insert Fireplaces

Arched Inserts are fireplaces like the Radley, which are arched or curved in style and are inserted into a fascia with a wooden or stone mantel surround. Arched Insert Fireplaces tend to look very businesslike, simple in form and highly practical.

   Tiled Insert Fireplaces

Tiled Inserts, like the Tulip are fairly self explanatory - the cast iron fireplace frame will have side panels of decorative tiles inserted. These are most decorative and attractive.

   Combination Fireplaces

These are complete all-in-one integrated fireplaces which include the surround and mantle. Sometimes simply called 'Combinations' is one of our most popular fireplaces. These were very popular for bedroom settings in bygone days and are making a strong comeback in decorative or practical room settings.
