Unlike many other type of furniture, which require a lot of labor intensive maintenance to keep their beauty, cast iron furniture requires very little care. Usually a quick wipe down with a damp cloth or a quick dusting with a rag is all that is needed to keep the furniture looking wonderful.

• Wash it occasionally and apply liquid car wax at least once a year; two or three times are even better.
• Use Soft Scrub to remove some stains and light scratches.
• If you see any rust, get after it at once with a wire brush and some touch-up paint.
• Fast action will keep the rust from spreading. Available in attractive designs ranging from contemporary to traditional, cast iron furniture is so durable that it frequently outlasts its owners. However, if it has not been properly coated by the manufacturer and maintained by the consumer, it may rust.

• Thorough protection from the weather is vital for all exterior ironwork.
• All surfaces should be carefully painted, taking care to include the underside of repose ornament.
• A wide variety of paints are available to reduce the risk of rusting, including epoxy resin based paints and red lead or zinc-rich undercoats.
• Care should also be taken to avoid collection points for moisture and, once painted, recesses may be filled with suitable filler such as pitch or an epoxy resin.
